There is an exhibition at the York Residency Museum that may be of interest, as it explores what life in the bush was REALLY like for women from 1870 to the present day.

The lives and times of four women from different eras and backgrounds are told using their own words, in the eye-opening ‘Four Women’s Stories’ recently opened at the York Residency Museum. This exhibition really gives an unusual insight into the home, leisure time and personal lives of four very different women who were and are part of the fabric of York. The exhibition includes many examples of interesting textiles such as berlin woolwork, embroidered silk shawls and handkerfchiefs and a beautiful croquet dress and evening gown.

If you are planning any events or outings it is suggested a special visit at a mutually convenient date and time – you don’t have to be restricted to the Museum’s opening hours. The museum will open by arrangement for groups of 10+. The ‘Four Women’s Stories’ will be on show throughout 2008.

The Museum is open from 1-3pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 11am-3.30pm at weekends.

Contact the guild webmaster if you wish more information.
