This is an excellent opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Needlelace.
Needlelace is an embroidery technique used to produce a lacy texture using only needle and thread. It is worked on the surface of the fabric and many lacy patterns can be developed.
The Tudor Rose design is a lovely way to learn this technique, which was used extensively in Elizabethan Embroideries. It has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years.
This style of embroidery appeared in the 16th and 17th centuries and depicted many of the botanical, animal and insects in a colourful and artistic way. People were also represented in the embroideries, wearing the costume of the day and the subjects depicted many biblical stories, as well as current events of the time.
This one-day class is designed to teach needlelace techniques used in Elizabethan embroidery. Knowledge of Detached Buttonhole stitch, lends itself to the creation of many types of flowers, bugs and animals. From Elizabethan embroidery, Stumpwork embroidery emerged with the use of 3-dimensional elements appearing, creating more realistic elements.
The finished Tudor Rose embroidery can be used to decorate and cover a small box.
