Rikke is Danish hand embroiderer visiting family in Perth and has kindly offered to teach two workshops for us. She writes:

My name is Rikke Lyng Christensen.

I’m a Danish hand embroiderer and have been teaching textile crafts for 21 years, 6 years in my own company, Moonfeather.

https://moonfeather.dk/en/collections/broderi-kits

I design, produce, and sell my embroidery kits to the rest of the world, and do textile art, alongside with teaching embroidery all around Denmark and in Germany.

For The Royal Danish Collection at the castle Koldinghus, I have been designing and teaching embroidery for the staff and guests, while Queen Margrethe 2nd's private embroideries were exhibited, and now again while the Flora Danica dinnerware is on display.

My passion for embroidery and Danish history goes hand in hand, so I also love to “tell” about our viking era and the beautiful patterns, using my needle and threads.

Description of the Sea Urchin workshop from Rikke,

In this workshop we will embroider 3D sea urchins. With a felt ball as a base and different stitches in a variety of yarns and structure, you will end up with your personal and unique little creature.

This is the time to bring the floss you bought because it just looks nice. Bring the shiny floss, the woollen, the ordinary and if you have small beads or sequins, bring them too. I will guide you through how to divide the ball in the sea urchins 5 areas, to secure the thread in a ball with no back side. Show you which stitches are best for this and hopefully give you inspiration for many more sea urchins.
