Lagartera Embroidery
Lagartera work, is an ancient hand embroiderytradition that originates from the Spanish town of Lagartera, near Toledo. It is known from at least the sixteenth century, and is often described as reflecting Moorish influences.
In this workshop, Rhonda will bring some of her stitched pieces and some older work that she was given when she visited the small village of Lagartera.
She will teach you how to produce a small piece of work that will look identical on the front and the back, learning the skill of starting and finishing a thread invisibly.
Wrong side of work..
Front of work.
Come and join her for a fun day of stitching, as well as learning more about this ancient type of embroidery.
The small project will probably be completed by the end of the day. This can be finished into a bookmark or used to decorate the side of a book cover.
Fabric and thread will be provided on the day for a small cost.
