We are delighted that Anna has agreed to conduct two workshops in Perth this year. Anna is a very experienced embroiderer, from embroidering ecclesiastical vestments, including a robe designed by Danish Queen Margrethe II, editing INSPIRATIONS magazine and having her designs published in numerous books and magazines.
She is bringing a brand-new design to us in the form of a beautiful hanging decoration which incorporates Stumpwork and metalwork. This little swan would look stunning on a Christmas Tree.
Description:
The Silver Swan is worked onto twilight blue silk using raised embroidery and metal thread techniques, and further
embellished with beads.
The swan is embroidered mostly in silk thread with accents of very fine silver metallic thread. It is highly padded and has a detached wing to achieve a 3D effect.
The stylised water swirls are stitched with laid metal thread and beads are used to form stars and water droplets. The design is made into a hanging ornament, with a beaded edge.
During the class, participants will learn:
To attach and embroider over high padding, creating embroidered slip (wing).
Stitching basic needle lace,
Basic couching and working with metallic threads, and bead embellishment.
The primary focus of the workshop will be the raised embroidery and metal thread techniques.
Participants should be confident with general embroidery stitches. Experience in raised and metal thread techniques is not essential.
