Time: 6pm

Venue:  Guild House, 565 Canning Highway, Alfred Cove.

Anna Scott (Danish-born embroidery artist, designer and tutor now residing in Australia) is visiting Perth to deliver two exciting courses. On 1 November she is also presenting a talk at Guild House on Designing for Embroidery. During the talk she will share her design process and some of the things she considers when creating a new embroidery design. Join us at the Guild for an engaging talk addressing, among other topics, "Do you have to be an embroiderer to design for embroidery?"

About Anna Scott:

Since completing a bachelor of hand embroidery in Copenhagen, my stitching journey has been nothing short of surprising. From embroidering ecclesiastical vestments and designing embroidery patterns for kits and workshops to editing INSPIRATIONS magazine and having my designs published in numerous books and magazines.

I am especially drawn to embroidery that involves colour, pattern and texture. Crewel embroidery raised embroidery (stumpwork) and goldwork are among my favourites, and I will happily mix everything. I find INSPIRATION in many places. I am drawn to patterns and textures everywhere I look; in landscapes and gardens; historical textiles, fabrics and garments; interior design and architecture.

During the talk, I will share my design process and some of the things I need to consider when creating a new embroidery design.  My greatest love is to 'translate' designs into stitches and it makes me question: "Do you have to be an embroiderer to design for embroidery?" The talk will not answer that question however, I hope it will open a conversation about what may or may not happen if an embroidery design is created by non-stitchers vs a design created by persons with stitching experience. Is there a difference?
