Complete beginners are very welcome to join us for this Start Stitching class in July and August.
There will be two separate classes conducted on Sunday afternoons, 13th July and the 10th August at Guild House, 565 Canning Highway, Alfred Cove.
Classes are spaced to allow time to complete what is learnt in the first class, with the second session concentrating on finishing and assembling the embroidered piece.
Blackwork embroidery, also known as "Spanish work," is a counted thread embroidery technique with origins in Northern Africa and brought to Spain by the Moors. It was introduced to England by Catherine of Aragon. It gained popularity in the Tudor period as an affordable and decorative alternative to lace.
Hundreds of patterns have been developed using a simple straight running stitch. The colour can be varied also to suit the whim of the stitcher!
The materials that you will need to stitch and complete the project are included in a sturdy kit box. This includes:
- Fabric, thread and needles,
- Small sharp scissors
- Quality Embroidery Hoop,
- Full Instructions and photo.
All you need to bring with you are your 'specs' if you need them!
Numbers in these classes are kept small, and we have experienced embroiderers there to help you when needed.
Come and join in the fun, bring a friend, learn something new and complete a pretty item to keep and enjoy.
