Carrickmacross Lace is a delicate and enchanting Irish craft dating back to 1820. It is worked with a layer of net and an upper layer of fine fabric over a pattern.
A thick outlining thread is couched along the lines of the pattern, sewing net and fabric together. Loops of thread known as twirls are also couched along the outer edge. The excess fabric is then cut away leaving the net to be further decorated with needle-run stitches.
International designers as well as royalty have commissioned Carrickmacross Lace, from Queen Victoria to the present day royalty. The international fashion designers, the Emmanuelles, used Carrickmacross Lace on the late Princess Diana’s Wedding dress.
The Australian Lace Guild and The Embroiderers Guild of WA are bringing Annette to Perth in September this year for the Annual Lace Guild Convention 2026.
We are delighted that Annette will teach two types of Lace Making for us. These workshops are open to all who would like to learn the basic technique of Needle Lace.
Annette Meldrum

Annette is an expert in teaching lace making and has been brought to Perth by the local Lace Makers Guild. She has agreed to teach two workshops for us while she is here.
