The Australian Lace Guild and The Embroiderers Guild of WA are bringing Annette to Perth in September this year for the Annual Lace Guild Convention 2026.

We are delighted that Annette will teach two types of Lace Making for us. These workshops are open to all who would like to learn the basic technique of Needle Lace.

Visit the website https://www.borriscarlow.ie/borris-lace to find out more about the history of this lace technique.

Borris Lace is a tape lace. The machine-made tape is sewn down to form the pattern and decorative needle lace fillings are used to fill the gaps. Its flowing designs are based on natural shapes.

Annette Meldrum

Annette co-wrote The Borris Lace Collection: A Unique Irish Needlelace with Marie Laurie. She writes:

'Our book on Borris Lace has helped to bring this tape lace technique back into public knowledge and popularity. The cottage industry had closed in the 1960’s and was forgotten and all knowledge lost.

Our book documents the significant collection at Borris House and provides patterns and instructions to support those wanting to learn. I am thrilled that there is now a thriving Borris Lacemakers group making Borris Lace in Borris Village again.

Borris Lace remains my favourite technique.'
