To celebrate Australian Heritage Festival Month, the Embroiderers’ Guild, in conjunction with the National Trust, is pleased host a public talk by textile artist, Trudi Pollard – Captured by Colour.
Captured by Colour showcases the artistic journey of local artist Trudi Pollard, whose textile art bursts with colours sourced from plants she cultivates herself in Bedfordale. Drawing on her childhood experiences as a prisoner of war, her migration to Australia, and her current life, Trudi’s work honours the natural colours of the hills and the wisdom of generations, celebrating both the beauty of nature and the creative spirit that endures across time.
Trudi has been studying, lecturing and writing about fibre arts for over 40 years. Since a little girl, she has always taken great delight in natures design, shapes and colours. From eucalyptus leaves to indigo, she is a living archive of environmental knowledge and global dyeing traditions, informed by study and travel across Australia, Japan, Cambodia, Indonesia, and France. Using the Australian bush and home grown plants Trudi creates artworks using the eco dyeing process on silks, wools and velvets.
At the heart of her practice is a profound connection to place and process, cultivated through decades of experimentation and teaching.
Trudi will be sharing some of the many stories of her life as an artist and showcasing her many beautiful designs and works of art. To learn more about Trudi and her work, please visit her website - https://www.pollarddesigns.com/
