Description:

Learn how to make two easy 3D forms to enlarge your repertoire of contemporary stitch techniques. In this one-day workshop you will learn the basics of making coiled pots and vessels formed over a simple mould. These are slow stitch projects good for quiet nights in front of the television. Projects will need to be completed at home.

Both projects have many possible variations, enabling you to make unique 3D artworks by varying shapes, threads, colourways and adding decorative elements.

Choose your own colour scheme or use the colours of the Kimberley or ocean as illustrated.

What to bring

Coiled Pot

• About 5 metres of cotton sash or macramé cord – 5mm thickness. (Bunnings sells it in skeins of about 20m for $9)
• 50gm ball of 8 ply knitting yarn, plain or variegated
• Embroidery scissors and sharp fabric scissors
• Large eye needle that you can thread your yarn through.

‘Mouldy’ Vessel

• Small packet of uncooked rice (long grain works well, although any sort is good)
• Plastic bag – compostable type or other, for example a medium freezer bag. Nothing too big.
• Elastic band
• Masking tape – 1” wide or similar
• String (sometimes called jute), natural or coloured
• Threads in your chosen colours.  Thick, stranded, Perle, crochet, yarns, or similar.
• Large eyed needles, such as a tapestry needle
• Notebook, regular sewing kit, embroidery scissors, fabric scissors, etc.

Helen Jones and Glen Hall have been Guild members for over 20 years. They both have backgrounds in education and have extensive experience in teaching Guild workshops, especially design and contemporary stitch techniques, including machine embroidery. Both have exhibited their textile artwork in numerous exhibitions.
