Courageous Stitch Mentor Programme

Creativity takes courage, a willingness to experiment, and honing your own skills to constructively evaluate your work to make a unique mark with your threads.   We all start with skills and ideas, frustrations, roadblocks but a passion for the process. Being mentored in your work brings key elements to your process.

Your mentor will share her experience, insights and experience with you to help you navigate challenges, build confidence and courage to pursue your own direction with your artful stitching.

Skills we will develop will include

• Sharing and talking about your work
• Considering your intent in the work and assessing its impact
• Working in a group setting to support each other, to record ideas, bring respect and encouragement into the process and champion each other’s progress.
• The process of preparing for presenting work to a wider community or “audience”
• The steps needed for participating in a group show during the Melville Open Studio Program in 2027 if you feel it is right for you.
• Learning questioning practices to overcome roadblocks in your creative process
• How to include story telling within your work

Your mentor: Nada Murphy

Nada is an exhibiting artist who is represented by Mossenson Gallery in Subiaco, a member of the Swan River Print Studio at Goolugatup Heathcote and finalist in the Tom Malone Glass Prize 25. She has spent a lifetime exploring creative processes to develop a versatile arts practice and is agile with a range of media including paint, print, glass, and textiles.

Nada leads Creative Compass mentoring programs drawing both on her experience as an artist and art tutor as well as her training and work as a Clinical Psychologist.  Through this, Nada will mentor so wellbeing and creativity can sit hand in hand and to help people build their own meaningful practice. 

Sessions will be held on the third Wednesday of the month: 16 September, 21 October and 18 November, with three more sessions in the first quarter of 2027. 

Sessions will be $120.00 per day, 10am to 4pm, at Guild House with a 3 month commitment.
