Your Brain on Embroidery - A talk by Ann-Marie Anderson-Mayes

28th January 2024
We are delighted that Ann-Marie Anderson-Mayes (Beautiful Stitches.com.au) has agreed to give a talk on "Your Brain on Embroidery - Why your stitching is even better for you than you thought!"
Come along to this talk and be fascinated by all the ways that embroidery is so much more than just a fun and engaging hobby.
Tuesday 19 March 6pm at Guild House, Alfred Cove

Did you know that 20 minutes per day of art is as effective for improving wellbeing as getting enough exercise and sleep? Or that making art - this includes embroidery! - for as little as forty-five minutes reduces the stress hormone cortisol? When Ann-Marie started Beautiful Stitches in 2012, she thought that she was starting a business to teach embroidery. Which was true, but over time she realised that it was so much more than that. She knew that her work was helping people to build confidence, manage mental health problems, alleviate pain, and grow community. It felt like there was something important and meaningful at the heart of her embroidery, but she didn't have any "proof". New research is showing categorically that participating in art activities is not just good for you - it's integral to being human. Come along to this talk and be fascinated by all the ways that embroidery is so much more than just a fun and engaging hobby.
