Congratulations to Guild member Olwyn Scott on her award of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the recent Australia Day announcements.

Olwyn joined The Embroiderers’ Guild when a Lace Group was formed in 1982 – and so started her journey in bobbin lace.

Olwyn became the Guild’s main lace tutor, a voluntary role she has held for 40 years - a wonderful teacher, generous with her time, energy and talents.

When in 1998, The Embroiderers’ Guild of WA established their Historic and Contemporary Collection of Embroidery and Lace (museum) Olwyn was a marvellous supporter of, and contributor to the Collection.

In 2021, a significant assessment of the WA Guild’s Collection was carried out by museum professionals and the Guild came out with flying colours. Olwyn’s contribution had been invaluable to the high quality of lace accepted into the Collection and the accompanying documentation. In so many ways Olwyn has shared the role of the volunteers in showcasing the cultural heritage of our nation, educating all and sharing the delights of a leisure activity for social and mental well-being by anyone regardless of age, gender, religion, nationality

For further details on Olwyn's contributions to the Guild and her many wonderful accomplishments, please refer to the document on our website.
